In The Limelight
Lobsterscope?

A lobsterscope is a metal disk with (typically) two slits cut in it which, when mounted in front of an ellipsoidal spotlight and rotated via an electric motor, creates a strobe-like effect.

The intensity of the effect may be faded in or out by controlling the level of the lamp and, of course, the color of the effect may be altered by the introduction of color media. The lighting effect created can be noticeably warmer and/or "old fashioned" feeling than a modern electronic strobe.

Examples of lobsterscope applications:

  • to create the most realistic simulation of the light from a movie or TV
  • to create the effect of flickering light from a passing passenger train
