Let It Snow!

If you need to make it snow onstage, in a holiday display, or for a party effect, Limelight can help.

How To Make It Snow Onstage

The three most common solutions for making it snow onstage are:

• Snow bags, cradles or related solutions which drop dry imitation flakes.
• Theatrical snow machines which use proprietary fluids to produce quick drying artificial flakes.
• Projected snow using lighting fixtures and effects loops.

Snow Bags aka Snow Cradles

The traditional way to make it snow onstage is with the use of shredded plastic "snow" dropped from a snow bag, or cradle.

	Typically a snow bag - or snow cradle - is made out of a piece of muslin with webbing & ties on both ends and a field of small holes (approximately 1/2" depending on the "snow" to be used) covering about 1/3 of an end. Hung from two adjacent battens and filled with the plastic flakes, snow is "made" by moving one of the battens up and down slightly to allow snow to filter through the holes.

Our plastic shredded snow is ideal for a snow drop or cradle. It floats like a dream. The plastic snow will not sustain a flame, but like almost all plastic snow it will melt. (Plastic flakes are 1/4")

Paper snow may be used for ground cover and set decoration. The cellulose dust from this particular type of snow makes it inappropriate for a snow drop. People should not roll or play in it either. Our paper snow would not sustain a flame when we tested it.

Also available - cornstarch, totally biodegradable snow.

TIP - although it may be tempting to sweep up the snow that has fallen and reuse it, keep in mind that you will also be sweeping up dirt and dust from the floor which could be problematic - especially for those with allergies - when released into the atmosphere.
