New And Worth Noting at LDI 2008

Over the last weekend in October, Limelight attended LDI in Las Vegas. As usual, there were dozens of new and improved products introduced. Here are a few of our favorites.

DMX Iris
from Rosco

Designed as the perfect compliment to the I-Cue Intelligent Mirror, the DMX Iris provides incredibly smooth remote control of the beam spread of an ETC Source Four, or most other modern ellipsoidals. The 24 leaf design of the DMX Iris provides a smoother, rounder aperture than typical irises which have 18 or fewer leaves. With this design the shape stays consistently even all the way down to the smallest opening. The combination of DMX control and a microprocessor controlled stepper motor makes for smooth movement even during long, slow cross fades. The iris may also be adjusted manually.

DichroFilm ^TM

This new plastic color filter addresses the challenges of applications where color media is exposed to hot light sources for extended periods of time. DichroFilm has been successfully tested with light sources as high as 20,000 watts and is perfect for permanent installations and locations where glass alternatives could pose a safety hazard. Manufactured in 25" x 25" sheets of 5mil plastic, DichroFilm is available in 10 standard colors. Custom colors are available on request.

LSC 6Circuit ^TM Live Multi-Cable Tester
from Lex Products

The LSC is a portable 19-pin tester that tests and diagnoses cabling problems while the cable is still installed. Unlike conventional 19-pin testers that require cables to be tested from both ends, the tester plugs directly into the end of any energized, dimmed, or undimmed six-circuit cable.

Tests live 19-Pin six-circuit, extensions, and dimmer outputs used in theatres, live events, concert touring, motion picture filming, wherever six-circuit cable is used.

Test LIVE 120 VAC 19 Pin cables and connectors
Verify power on each of the circuits
Diagnose both broken and swapped wires and pins
Provides 3 diagnostic LEDs for each circuit, similar to popular electrician's single-circuit testers

DMX Snow Machine

This Snow Machine combines DMX with advanced motor control to provide a quiet, precision controlled snow effect. May be used as a single unit (above a set window, for example) or using the power feed pass-through, to several machines may be connected in series (for a full-stage width snow effect). This machine uses the same paper or plastic snow as other established snow effects, but with the advantage of DMX control of the machines speed, allowing remote control of the level of snowfall from none to blizzard.
